Initial Consultation for Legal ServicesI charge $45 for an initial twenty minute consultation, payable at the time of the consultation. During this initial consultation I will gather information, try to answer your questions, evaluate your case, and if appropriate, quote a retainer amount. Since each case is completely different, I cannot quote a retainer amount without first discussing your case with you. There is no charge for an initial consultation in personal injury cases. See Legal Services. Hourly RateI charge $175 per hour for my legal services, except as otherwise noted below. Some types of cases are handled on a contingency basis or set fee basis. Home VisitsI am available for a consultation at your home if you live within 10 miles of my office. I charge a set fee of $20 for house calls, in addition to my other fees. WillsI draft and execute simple wills for a set fee of $175. This includes an initial consultation, drafting the will, and helping you to execute the will in front of two witnesses (provided by us), as required by law. In the initial consultation, I generally examine with clients their estate plan and various estate planning tools, such as trusts and strategies to avoid probate and minimize taxes. TrustsI charge my normal hourly rate of $175 per hour to prepare new trusts or amend existing trusts. A new trust will generally cost $500 and up, depending on its complexity. ProbateI charge my normal hourly rate of $175 per hour to probate a decedent’s estate. These fees are payable from the estate’s assets, and are not payable until approved by the court at the close of probate. Thus, the only fee payable up front is the court’s filing fee, which ranges from $78 to $729, depending on the size of the estate. Power of AttorneyI generally charge a set fee of $80 for preparing a power of attorney. Divorce, Custody and Family LawI charge my normal hourly rate of $175 per hour for these services. My minimum retainer for a dissolution of marriage (divorce) is $1,000 for an uncontested divorce, which includes the court’s filing fee of $258. The retainer may be higher, however, depending on factors such as whether there are children born of the marriage, whether the proceedings are contested, and the total value of marital assets. Real Estate LawI charge $175 per hour for my services relating to real estate. The types of problems that can arise in this field are so diverse that it is impossible for me to quote a retainer amount without first consulting with the client. Criminal DefenseI charge my normal hourly rate of $175 per hour. Personal Injury Law and Insurance ClaimsThere is no charge for the initial consultation if you have been a victim of an accident. Should I accept your case, I will likely handle it on a "contingent fee" basis. That is, you will not need to pay any fees up front, as my fees will consist of a percentage, usually one third, of any money I collect on your behalf. Costs, such as court filing fees, copy costs, postage and phone charges will be paid from the client's share of an award or settlement. Contracts and Business LawI charge my normal hourly rate of $175 per hour. I cannot quote a retainer amount without first meeting with the client. CollectionsIf you wish me to collect a debt owed to you, I generally accept the case on a contingency fee basis. That is, you will not need to pay my fees up front, as my fees will consist of a percentage, usually one half, of any money I collect on your behalf. Costs, such as court filing fees, copy costs, postage and phone charges will be paid from the client's share of any money I am able to collect. Mediation and ArbitrationI charge $175 per hour for my services as a private mediator or arbitrator. These fees are divided as the parties agree. I ask that the parties initially commit to a minimum of two hours of mediation, to be paid for at the time of the first session.
